Postgraduate Courses in Contemporary Art & Graphic Design

The School offers postgraduate courses in contemporary art and graphic design which enable students to advance their capabilities and individual creative development within professional contexts and to engage with the School’s strong research culture.

The courses are designed to promote and support the key characteristics of postgraduate study, to be advanced, particular and independent in the following ways;

  • the advancement of capabilities extends beyond, and utilises, the knowledge, practical and cognitive skills which have been acquired at undergraduate level or its equivalent
  • the study is particular in that it is located in, or around, the individual student’s specific needs and aspirations
  • students are independent in that they identify, negotiate and realise their own approach to study and are able to critically reflect upon its intentions, processes and outcomes

Students define a particular project which forms the basis of their programme of study and interfaces with contexts for contemporary practice, professional discourse and critical debates in contemporary art and graphic design.

Academic support and guidance is provided through modules which promote critical reflection on intentions, processes and outcomes through modules which guide and support the project; through programmes on professional practice and contexts; through a learning agreement which informs self-directed learning and critical evaluation and through programmes which acquaint students with particular examples of professional practice and the necessary attributes for engagement with it.
