BA(Hons) Interior Architecture & Design students have enjoyed a week long trip to Paris; taking in a range of sites to include the newly refurbished Musee D’Orsay , Jean Nouvel designed Musee Quai de Branly, alongside world class patissiers, French bistros, roald dhal-esque chocolatiers and ice-skating in the Eiffel Tower.
We had the privilege to visit 2 key houses: both masterpieces of twentieth century design. Located an hour out of the city, students enjoyed exploring the weekend Villa Savoye designed by Le Corbusier but the highlight of our week was a guided tour of Pierre Chareau’s brilliant Maison De Verre,. Here, students enjoyed a compelling talk by architectural historian Mary Vaughan of Columbia University where the magical, interior world was brought to life. We returned inspired, informed and a few pounds heavier!

"Lens, Deconstructed. I took apart one of my items (an old film camera lens) and digitally manipulated it to create this deconstruction. It's rough at the moment, as not all the parts match up and the scale is slightly off, but yeah. Dope."

Using the work of James Wisniewski as a reference, I created these photomontages using portait images shot in the studio along with some images of the Swiss mountains that I took a year or so age, and here is the result.

So, within a couple of hours of getting the brief on Thursday to do some publicity for Ultimate Holding Company’s talk on Wednesday 16th November at 12.30pm in Rosebowl Lecture Theatre C, Daisy was cutting out massive letters and sticking them on the windows of Broadcasting Place. I like the chutzpah (they’re mostly still up).

Students from Graphic Arts and Design were invited by renowned animators the Quay Brothers to reprise their concert of found musical instruments in the Town Hall at the launch of the Leeds Canvas, an arts festival taking place next May as part of the Cultural Olympiad. I’m really keen on Rachael’s response to the 88 Things book set by Mick Marston. This took real dedication and hard work to uncover and research the 88 Things Rachael felt some real attachment and attraction to, rather than the first things she came across. Rachel’s also designed the book that contains them in a really modest and appropriate manner.

Great poster for tonight’s D&AD North Lecture by GBH.
